FAQs

How Do We Get started?

First, we will have a 20-30 minute consultation by phone so we can start to get to know each other. I will hear about you and what brings you to therapy, and I will also answer any questions you have. This helps us start to determine if we are a good fit. If so, we’ll then meet for four to five sessions to see how it feels and make sure we work well together. If it’s still feeling like a good fit for both us, then we’ll commit to working together longterm.

Do we meet in person or online?

Whichever you prefer. I have a hybrid schedule and have both online and in person availability.

Why don’t you take insurance?

There are many reasons. Primarily, if I took insurance, I would have to diagnose you with a psychological disorder and periodically submit documentation to “prove” that you are still sick enough to warrant treatment. This runs counter to how I practice and also undermines patient confidentiality, which is paramount to the therapeutic process. However, if you wish, I can provide superbills that you can submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement.

How frequently will we meet?

Therapy is a weekly commitment. That frequency is the minimum necessary to facilitate this kind of work and achieve the depth necessary for change. I even see people two or three times a week in some cases. Once we have worked together a while and you are preparing to transition out of therapy, then sometimes I will see people biweekly as we wind down.

How much is therapy?

My fee is $130 per 45-minute session. I do not accept insurance. I have a limited number of sliding scale slots available to increase the accessibility of my services.

How long does Therapy take?

This depends. Everyone is different, and often there is no way to tell at the beginning how long therapy will take. Some people are in therapy for a year or two, and some stay in it for decades. You can keep coming as long as you want to. Studies are starting to show that the longer and more frequently people meet with their therapists, the longer-lasting the results—which actually saves time and money in the long run. That said, I will follow your lead!
